variations on a chickadee
outside my window
darting from branch to branch--
two chickadees
--------------
a little homage to basho:
空枝に四十雀跳ぶ冬の朝
kara eda ni shijuukara tobu fuyu no asa
on a bare branch
a chickadee hops
winter morning
--------------
and my attempt at a pun in japanese (using "kara" as a pivot word):
四十雀枝に初めの寒気かな
shijuukara eda ni hajime no samuke kana
a chickadee
on a bare branch--
first chill

目が閉鎖かぼちゃの中で腸だ
me ga heisa kabocha no naka de harawata da
with eyes closed
inside the pumpkin--
guts!

and so it begins
so this is my haiku blog. i plan to start writing haiku on a regular basis. i might even try them in (very broken) japanese from time to time.
in case you're wondering, "mizu no oto" means "sound of water," and comes from one of my favorite haiku (pretty much the most famous haiku ever written), by Matsuo Bashō:
古池や蛙飛びこむ水の音
furuikeya kawazu tobikomu mizu no oto
old pond!
a frog jumps in
sound of water
